Hudson Yards

What to do in this new neighborhood in New York?

It's gone. New York's new neighborhood Hudson Yards has been open to the public since Friday, March 15. Everyone is talking about it, but what exactly can we do/see there? Follow the guide.

Where is it?

Let's start at the beginning: where exactly is Hudson Yards located? The neighborhood is located between 30th and 34th streets and 10th and 11th avenues. Eventually, it will extend to 12th Avenue/West Side Highway, above the Long Island Railroad train garage. To get there, you can walk from the 34th Street stop on lines A, C, E, or arrive like a prince (or princess) to the Hudson Yards stop at the end of line 7. It can easily be reached via the High Line as well.

The Vessel

It is undoubtedly the masterpiece of this large complex. The Vessel looks like a huge vase filled with interconnected staircases. This Thomas Heatherwick Buildinghas 154 interconnected staircases, 80 platforms and 2,500 steps. It rises facing the Hudson River, in the center of a large square. To access it, it is free but you have to wait your turn. Book your ticket now.

The Shed

At the foot of the Vessel stands The Shed, the cultural and artistic touch of Hudson Yards. This performance and exhibition hall aims to bring together emerging artists from all walks of life (dance, music, theater, digital, sculpture...). It will open its doors on April 5 with a series of concerts, “Soundtrack of America”, which highlights the richness of African American music through a new generation of artists. The next day, an exhibition by artist Trisha Donnelly and an immersive exhibition based on the work of composers Steve Reich and Arvo Pärt and the painter Gerhard Richter will begin. Designed by the firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, The Shed is equipped with a shell that can be moved on wheels to create a second covered space next to the interior structure. Info and tickets here.

The Shops and Restaurants

We give it to you right away: in this building, you will find... shops and restaurants. This shopping center is home to a hundred shops for all tastes: luxury brands (hello Cartier and Rolex), department stores (the only Neiman Marcus in New York, H&M, Uniqlo...), various shops (The Body Shop, Muji, Origins...), various shops (The Body Shop, Muji, Origins...), and even a gallery. One A large French contingent is included in the offer. As for restaurants, our little favorite is Mercado Little Spain, the impressive Spanish food of the famous chefs José Andrés and Ferran and Albert Adrià, where you can find paellas, churros, tapas and other Iberian delights. Full list of shops and restaurants.

The towers

Hudson Yards is not only a place to pass through, it is also a place where you live (when you can afford it) and work. L'Oréal is already installed at 10 Hudson Yards, one of the commercial towers in the neighborhood, on the edge of the High Line. Other office buildings will be delivered in the coming years and will house companies in the medical and media sectors (CNN, HBO...). The tallest tower in the neighborhood is under construction: it is 30 Hudson Yards where an observatory called The Edge will be built at an altitude of 304 meters. Beware of vertigo! It will be decorated with a lounge. The building will not open until the end of 2019 but groups can already reserve their place for the observatory. Another building of interest: located on the High Line, 15 Hudson Yards is an 88-story residential tower at the corner of 10th Avenue and 30th Street. In particular, its inhabitants have access to a pool on the 50th floor. A 200-room Equinox hotel will open at 35 Hudson Yards, at the corner of 33rd Street and 11th Avenue. Apartments for at least $5 million are for sale in this tower, according to real estate site Curbed.
